Funfit - The Health Club for Kids

The Problem is that Childhood Obesity is not just on the rise,
it has become an epidemic and a national emergency!

Funfit is working to change all of that through fun, family inclusive programming designed just for kids!

Funfit® was created by 2 Maryland sisters, Celia Kibler (shown with kids) and Maddi Cheers in 1987. Celia is President of Funfit, Inc. and manages all operations, programming, as well as teaches many of the classes offered in Maryland/Washington DC metro area. Celia is Certified by NESTA/PACE in personal training for kids, by IFA in Sports Nutrition, is a Level 3 Radiant Child Yoga Certified Instructor and holds a BS from the University of Maryland, College of Human Ecology.

Funfit grew out of Celia & Maddi's wish to develop a program for kids that would fulfill the need for physical activity in a society that only rewards children and adults that are gifted in a specific sport. Being "the last picked for teams" themselves, Celia and Maddi decided there has to be a better way. The Funfit program was created to promote healthy lifestyles and battle the increasing epidemic of childhood obesity. Activities de-emphasizes competition and emphasizes the importance of fun and play, thus creating a desire for kids and families to maintain a healthy and active life-style as they grow.

The family fitness concept was developed because of the need for families to begin incorporating regular exercise into their schedules, promoting a healthy lifestyle for their children to follow. Parents are our children's strongest role models and the Funfit program includes the parents in every class. Parents are rewarded with a heart-healthy workout while participating with their kids. With increasingly busy schedules, the need to spend more quality time together as a family, as well as the dire need for physical fitness for all ages, Funfit's unique programming fills this much needed void in the American family.

Under the advisement of an orthopaedic surgeon, a cardiologist, and an early childhood language specialist, Funfit came to life. Current advisors to the program are Dr. Philip Romano, chiropractic medicine and Ms. Susan Lichtenstein, speech pathologist.

Our name says it all! Kids have a natural desire to move, as parents and teachers know. The problem is, they are often in situations where they are told, "No, you can't." At Funfit® we say, "Yes, you can!" In a stress-free, cooperative environment, we encourage kids to participate in, lead and create activities, regardless of their physical ability, skills or gender.

The little ones join in simply because it's fun. Older ones participate because they feel good about themselves, are allowed to simply have fun, and are excited to learn about healthy ways to take care of their bodies. Kids are not pressured in any way and their parents work with them to encourage participation. Health benefits are maximized by involving each child all of the time.

Parents are included in every activity, not only to allow them the opportunity to exercise, but to reinforce the importance of the family unit as active role models and the global need of fitness for all ages.

We believe that a family that laughs, plays and exercises together, stays happy and healthy together. It combines to sustain a lifetime of physical activity and overall well-being.

Funfit® provides a safe environment for all participants and advises on exercise safety for both children and adults.

All Funfit® Instructors are fully trained, CPR/AED Certified, FBI fingerprinted and thoroughly LOVE children. All Instructors are adults, specialty instructors are fully certified and degreed to teach their specific program. Funfit Inc. is a business member of the IDEA Health & Fitness Association and abides by their guidelines for exercise safety.
